CLARUS SYSTEMS RECEIVES $8.85 MILLION IN SERIES A FUNDING
Company Poised for Accelerated Growth with Software Solutions That Will Fuel the Adoption of Enterprise IP Communications Systems.
San Francisco, Dec. 02, 2003 - Clarus Systems Inc., a provider of enterprise Internet Protocol (IP) communications management software, today announced that it received $8.85 million in Series A funding led by Trinity Ventures and Mobius Venture Capital.
Clarus Systems proactively measures, manages and optimizes the quality and performance of IP telephony, a component of IP communications, for Global 2000 enterprise customers. With this funding, Clarus Systems, based in San Francisco and founded in 2000 by Evan Powell and Kevin Bayuk, plans to expand its engineering, sales, marketing and channel development efforts working with best-of-breed partners. Fred Wang, general partner at Trinity Ventures and Robin Bordoli, principal at Mobius Venture Capital will each join Clarus Systems' board of directors.
"The investment community recognized that Clarus Systems has a sustainable, mature business model that addresses real and current IP communications challenges with software solutions that answer the questions end-users care about most: Do I have dial tone? Can I complete and transfer calls? Is my voicemail working? What is the quality of service?" said Keith Giarman, chief executive officer and president of Clarus Systems. "We're fortunate to have strong investment partners who understand the challenges and rewards of IP communications and support our work. The successful Series A funding will allow us to build upon our product and customer success in the following year."
Investors See Clarus Systems as a Strong Venture
Many enterprises are using the natural network upgrade cycle to convert telephony systems to IP from legacy Public Branch Exchanges (PBXs) and are experiencing tremendous cost savings and productivity improvements from doing so. Although IP telephony technology has matured, the costs of deployments and ongoing management have yet to decline. Thus, many enterprises have underestimated the requisite expertise, network requirements and configuration complexities, particularly when merging voice, data and real-time "blended" applications.
"The majority of enterprises are coming off their upgrade cycle from Y2K and they're looking to upgrade their existing networks while adding IP telephony capabilities," said Wang. "Clarus Systems is the only company to simplify the deployment and ongoing monitoring of IP telephony systems from the end-user perspective with proven technology and business traction - reason alone to invest in the company."
Clearing the Line for IP Communications
Companies use ClarusIPCT Certification to assess the phone system during an IP telephony deployment, to manage IP telephones independently from the network and to monitor the voice quality and end-user experience. ClarusIPC Certification assures cost control of IP phone system deployment and enables a more rapid, positive return on investment while supporting system management throughout the IP communications lifecycle.
ClarusIPC Certification is ideal for testing and managing the features that impact end-users, identifying network, system, gateway and phone trouble spots and preemptively notifying network administrators of potential problems. It translates end-user measurements into actionable information for use during system installation, upgrades, fixes or patches and during daily production use.
